Somos una cooperativa argentina de videojuegos independientes dedicada a pensar y crear juegos desde perspectivas sociales, políticas y artísticas, tomando seriamente al videojuego como una obra cultural que se nutre de sus intersecciones con el mundo.

Enfoque

Los videojuegos, históricamente, han sido un medio endogámico, concentrado en pocos contenidos y perspectivas. En Matajuegos creemos que ya ha pasado el momento de que los videojuegos se abran a una multitud de perspectivas y voces diferentes. 

• Queremos que haya juegos pequeños, juegos personales, juegos activistas, juegos autobiográficos, juegos queer, juegos feministas, juegos anticomerciales, juegos feos, juegos serios, juegos cómicos, juegos surrealistas, juegos hobbistas, juegos antifascistas y, principalmente, juegos latinoamericanos. 
  

• Queremos que crezca la diversidad de las personas que crean juegos, para que el medio florezca con sus voces y perspectivas. Todes podemos hacer juegos.

• Queremos que los juegos y su desarrollo sean más accesibles, desde lo tecnológico y lo económico.

• Queremos que el trabajo de crear videojuegos sea digno, libre de precarización y que ofrezca condiciones laborales justas para les trabajadores.

Comunicación y crítica

Como parte integral de nuestro trabajo, además de desarrollar videojuegos, también realizamos actividades de comunicación y crítica. En nuestro sitio publicamos artículos propios, traducciones, videos y podcasts.

Miembros

No somos solo desarrolladores. Además de crear juegos, también nos desenvolvemos en otras artes, disciplinas y profesiones. Somos docentes, periodistas, músicos, artistas, animadores, activistas, escritores  y más.

We’re a Latin American indie game coop dedicated to thinking and making videogames from a social, political, and artistic perspective that reflects our regional and cultural context and nourishes itself from intersections with other fields and disciplines.

Approach

Videogames have been a historically closed-off and endogamic medium focused on few voices and perspectives. At Matajuegos we believe that it’s beyond time that videogames open up to a multitude of different and diverse points of view.

• We want there to be different kinds of games. Small games, activist games, autobiographical games, queer games, feminist games, anti-comercial games, ugly games, serious games, humorous games, surrealist games, hobbyist games, anti-fascist games, and, principally, Latin American games.
  

• We want a greater diversity of people making games, and for the medium to grow and flower through their voices and perspectives. Everyone can make games.

• We want games and game-creation to be more accessible, be it economically, technologically, and design-wise.

• We want the work of videogame creation to be sustainable and dignified for workers. We want it to be free from exploitation and unjust working conditions.

Game Criticism

Besides developing videogames, we also publish Spanish-language game criticism. We write articles, translate other authors, produce videos, and run podcasts.

Members

We aren’t just game developers. Beyond creating games, the members of our co-op are also involved in other arts, disciplines, and professions. We are teachers, journalists, musicians, artists, animators, activists, writers, and more.
